The holiday season is officially here, and there is no better way to celebrate than with music. Even better, why not celebrate by making music yourself? Christmas time is a time for family and friends to gather and celebrate together. So, whether you’re a beginner or an advanced piano player, take advantage of this time to show off some of your piano skills and put a smile on everyone’s face. Here are easy Christmas songs to learn on piano:

Jingle Bells

First on the list is always a holiday favorite, “Jingle Bells.” This tune is not only one of the most popular holiday songs that people enjoy, but it is also a very easy song to learn. The chorus is very repetitive, making it easy for every piano player to learn and show off.

We Wish You A Merry Christmas

Another classic song is “We Wish You A Merry Christmas.” This song is another great song to sit down and learn because of its simple chorus that repeats the same line three times. When you start playing this simple tune, you’ll have people singing along. This song is also a great way to help bring in the new year – as most can agree that we’d love to have an incredible year during 2022.

Joy to the World

Next on the list is “Joy to the World,” a Christmas classic. Issac Watts is the man who wrote these beautiful lyrics based on the book of Psalms in the Bible. Even today, this is one of the most published Christmas hymns in America. The musical arrangement for Joy to the World was put together by Lowell Mason, an accomplished composer, in 1848. This tune may be slightly more challenging to learn on the piano due to adding the left hand, giving this tune a fuller, richer sound. However, the verses and chorus continue to be repetitive, and it does follow a simple pattern. And this is a more upbeat and joyful hymn that will bring a smile to those around you.

Silent Night

“Silent Night” is a very well-known Christmas tune that is mostly played during Christmas Ever. This song is an excellent piece for beginner piano players to learn how to use the pedal. Beginner piano players will learn to push down and pick up their feet on the long phrases since Silent Night is considered a very legato piece. Silent Night is played with only the white keys, making it easy to play as well.

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer

Last but not least on the list is the perfect song to a sing-along, “Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer.” This tune hit the number one spot in the Billboard charts back in 1949 on Christmas week. Starting as a fictional story, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer was turned into a song, and it is still a popular and loved song to this day. The most challenging part of learning this piece is the rhythm because it changes from the introduction to the verses and then again for the bridge. But this song is worth learning to play and will always be a big hit with the children and adults!
