Most piano practice advice focuses on what you should practice, but have you considered where you should practice? Our surroundings have a significant impact on our moods and productivity. When practicing piano, you want a warm, inviting environment that invites you to sit down and play. Check out these tips for a cozy piano practice space:

1. Find Privacy

If at all feasible, find a quiet place to practice. If you’re not distracted, you’ll be able to concentrate better. You’ll feel more at ease taking risks and making blunders if no one can hear you. Making mistakes is a crucial part of the learning process. You won’t get better unless you fail once in a while! When the piano sits in the middle of the living room, though, it can be tough to make mistakes and seem “terrible.” Acoustic pianos are tough to transport, but a second digital piano could be an excellent addition to your bedroom if you can afford it. Headphone jacks are standard on digital pianos, allowing you to practice in complete privacy. Even a small, inexpensive one can make a difference by allowing you to test new arrangements or practice a challenging passage in a safe environment.

2. Get Good Lighting

Why not invest in decent lighting for reading pieces if you already have nice lighting for reading books? Bad lighting is inconvenient and inconvenient, so don’t let it stop you from training. Specially made piano lamps can help illuminate your sheet music if your space’s illumination is inadequate. Lights that attach to music stands or keyboards are available. Alternatively, a strong lamp meant for use on top of an acoustic piano can be used.

3. Sit Comfortably

You wouldn’t work on a computer for hours while sitting on a hard wooden stool. Similarly, you want to feel at ease to practice as often as possible. Piano benches come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Soft leather tops and storage space beneath the seat are standard features of the most outstanding piano benches. We strongly advise you to get an adjustable seat. Pianists come in many shapes and sizes, so choose an appropriate seat for your height. Avoid chairs with armrests if you want the most mobility! Make sure your forearms are parallel to the ground as you sit. If you’re having trouble with your posture due to practicing, check out our interview with a chiropractor for more advice.

4. Personalize Your Space

Make your practice area one-of-a-kind. Ensure there are snacks and drink nearby if you want to munch while practicing. Decorate your space with motivating art in those colors if you work better with them. You want to achieve a fantastic sense of flow as you practice. As a result, it reduces the need to get up and collect things. Have everything you’ll need nearby, including sheet music, cords, your computer, headphones, stationery, and anything else you might require. Set aside piano-specific tools.

5. Take Care of Your Instrument

Protecting keyboards with a dust cover is a good idea. Digital pianos, on the other hand, are incredibly low-maintenance. All you need is a light dusting now and then. If you own an acoustic piano, get it tuned twice a year or every six months, depending on the humidity level in your home. Otherwise, a gentle wipe with a microfibre cloth on your acoustic piano should be enough.
