I have been asked some questions recently that has lead me to spotlight this information.  After you have secured your copyrights on your origianal music, what do I do next?

How do I make money?  Performing Rights Organizations such as BMI, ASCAP and SESAC collect performance royalties for the writer and publishers.  Being affiliated with one of these takes some investigation and choices on which one you would prefer signing with as a writer.

Finding and choosing a publisher is important since they collect mechanical rights played over the air.  The new age of digital downloads have added some different avenues and controversy over how artist, writer and publishers are keeping tabs on their royalties owed to them.

As a new songwriter in Nashville, before you just start playing your music for all to hear, secure your copyrights then research and investigate signing with a performing rights organization and finding a publisher that is right for you.
