Rather than putting its digital piano technology into a conventional upright-style console, Roland designed the GP-3 as a compact micro grand. The curved cabinet, opening top, and Polished Ebony finish give it the visual character people often want from a grand piano, but its footprint tells a different story. At just 27.5 inches deep, the GP-3 can fit into spaces where even a small acoustic grand would be difficult to accommodate.

At the keyboard, Roland uses its 88-key PHA-4 Standard action with escapement and Ivory Feel key surfaces. The GP-3's Piano Reality Standard sound engine provides the piano voice, working together with Roland's Piano Reality Standard sound system and a pair of 12 cm speakers powered by 11 watts per channel.
There is also quite a bit happening behind the GP-3's traditional appearance.
Bluetooth Audio lets you stream music from a compatible phone or tablet through the piano's speaker system, while Bluetooth MIDI provides wireless connectivity for compatible music apps. The GP-3 works with the Roland Piano App, which expands access to sounds and other functions from a mobile device. USB MIDI and audio connectivity are available as well.
For everyday practice, two headphone connections make quiet playing easy. The instrument also includes a metronome, recording capability, Dual mode, TwinPiano, transposition, and a three-pedal system with continuous detection on the damper pedal.
