Every year, thousands of musicians move to Nashville to pursue dreams of a successful career. From the first record they purchased to afternoons spent at band practice in their parent’s garage, a musical destiny latches onto so many of the people who call Nashville, TN home. At Miller Piano Specialists, we strive to give musicians a place to illustrate their talents and share their passion. On the first Thursday of every month, we host a songwriters’ night in Nashville for musicians across the city to showcase their original work.
With so many talented artists in Nashville, it can become difficult and disheartening not only to find venues to play, but also to exhibit their own material. While the dream is to play at the Bluebird, with hundreds of audience members lining up outside and hushed to an inaudible silence in reverence of your work, this kind of success is not easy to come by. We provide these artists with an outlet for their music, an audience of listeners, and a great networking opportunity with other esteemed musicians.
Coordinated by Sherry Carlisle Smith, a Nashville-based singer who used to tour with the American vocal quartet, The Jordanaires, we pay enormous attention to giving songwriters a productive space in which to perform their work. We encourage musicians to make use of the piano and PA system that we provide for the songwriters’ night, and many artists will bring along a guitar or accompanying vocalist to flesh out their sound. The session usually lasts for roughly eighty minutes, with each performance clocking in at twenty to twenty-five minutes.
As a city, we are blessed to have such a huge breadth of talent, creating droves of original work. At Miller Piano Specialists, we believe that the most important part of nourishing our city’s talent is allowing every musician’s voice to be heard. Our songwriters’ nights attract every type of musician.
