Sold – Georgia – a 5’2″ McPhail Piano in Brown Mahogany with Column Corinthian Stylings

Georgia is a timeless beauty, built by the McPhail Piano Company in 1920, prior to their merge with the Kohler and Campbell Piano Company. This 5’2 grand has aged quite gracefully. Though she has a few blemishes that are hard to miss, they are overshadowed by her detailed embellishments and charm. Her strings were recently replaced and there is an old character to her voice. You might just fall in love with Georgia, as we have.

Georgia’s story

In the heart of Boston, amidst the bustling streets and lively jazz clubs of the 1920s, a piano was crafted with meticulous care. This piano, affectionately named Georgia, possessed not only a musical soul but also a unique and beautiful detail in her cabinet—a testament to the craftsmanship of the time. Born in an era of jazz and roaring spirits, Georgia found her way into various hands, weaving a tapestry of melodies that echoed the spirit of the times.

Making her way through lively jazz clubs and grand concert halls, she became a witness to history, showcasing the marks of countless fingers and the patina of a life well-lived. With some restoration over the years, Georgia has retained her essence and continues to turn heads. She has gracefully adapted to the changing times, captivating audiences with her timeless melodies.

Despite the signs of time etched on her surface, Georgia continues to share her stories through music, proving that the heart of an instrument beats eternally, carrying the spirit of each era it embraces.

Georgia’s Name

Georgia was named after the timeless jazz standard, “Sweet Georgia Brown”. The song was first recorded by Ben Bernie and his Hotel Roosevelt Orchestra in 1925, when jazz, and Georgia, were just getting their start.
