Why Should You Tune Your Piano?

Your piano is more than just an instrument. It’s part of your home, your passion, and your life. Regular tuning ensures your piano sounds its best every time you play, enhancing your enjoyment and preserving its quality for generations to come.

  • Your Sound, Perfected: Over time, changes in temperature, humidity, and regular use can cause your piano to go out of tune. Regular tuning keeps every note sounding as it should — rich and clear.
  • Protect Your Investment: Tuning helps prevent unnecessary strain on your piano’s internal components, preserving its value and performance for years to come.
  • Play With Confidence: A properly tuned piano responds better to your touch, making it more enjoyable to play.

How Often Should You Tune Your Piano?

Here in Nashville, we recommend tuning your piano twice a year, typically in Spring and Fall. These seasonal changes bring shifts in temperature and humidity that can affect your piano’s tuning. A good rule of thumb is to schedule a tuning when you switch your home’s air conditioning from heating to cooling or vice versa.

At the very least, tuning your piano once a year helps maintain its sound quality and protects its internal components from unnecessary wear. If your piano gets heavy use, such as for daily practice or performances, or if it’s recently been moved, more frequent tunings may be necessary to keep it in optimal condition.
